Kodak moments

My sister-in law- asked me for a few pics to put in a slide show she's making of our girls. They are graduating this June and she wants to do something special for them.  I have so many to choose from it's hard to select just a few.
As I began sorting through the many photographs and digital files, I had to slow down and really look at each one. The pics taken from her first year, birthdays, holidays, and other events during the past 17 years opened a river of memories and feelings from each moment captured. There was one with her showing her first tooth that fell out and the that smile revealed the space it came from. There were pics of her and her sister playing with stuffed animals and dolls. Her first drum was an assortment of my kitchen pans. She played them with the same gusto as she does now in the high school band. She still plays the drums, as well as all the other percussion sets.
Pics taken with grandparents and friends who are no longer with us, my Dad included. And our neighbor's son who she was close to growing up,who died in a drowning accident nearly 3 years ago.
How do you choose just a few pics from so many and sum up what a childhood was like?
As she ends this chapter of being in public school to becoming an adult, I look forward to add to the collection of memories, and hopefully put them in better order :)

Here's to the moments we try to capture on film

New favorite cd

A friend recently posted a link for another blog. I like reading other blogs, and this one had the added incentive of a chance to win a cd; It was the newest cd of Rebecca St.James,"I Will Praise You"!
I entered by answering the question,"What is your favorite Rebecca St. James song?".I chose "Here I am to Worship" I was happy to be chosen as the winner to receive her cd, and now have new favorite songs by her.
I have listened to it several times and am still trying to decide if there is one that I like best, but they are all really good songs. I may be leaning toward track nine.
Rebecca St. James married Jacob Fink on Easter Saturday, April 23, at the Junipero Serra Museum in San Diego, I hope they create awesome love songs together <3
I also hope you have a chance to hear her new cd,I Will Praise You, you won't be disappointed :)
God bless,

Mothers' Day Memories

I have been blessed with a loving Mom who tried hard to be fair with each of us. She always took time to attend school events, sports, parades, and plays. She always let us know how much she loves us. It is my Mom who has been my role model for me to my own kids. I know how much it meant to me to know she was going to be there when something important was happening. and things that weren't so important but she took the time anyway.
When my kids were born, she was near. Most holidays were spent at her home, as were birthdays, graduations, and just gatherings of family and friends. She also took time to talk about the Lord and prayed with us when needed (which was often).
She lives too far for me to visit in person today, but I want her to know how much I love her and miss spending time together <3
I celebrate my Mom today, and hope I am to my own kids how much she has meant to me <3
Happy Mothers' day to my Mom <3
and all women who care enough to spend time with others.
~God bless,

A lamp gone out =/

While reading yesterday's paper, I quickly glanced at the obituaries. My heart dropped when I saw a friend of mine just passed away. What?! She was so young, I saw her about two months ago while shopping, she has a son to care for! I was stunned and speechless. Her picture shows a young lady smiling back, not sickly as the write up says. Who is taking care of her boy?
I have known her for at least fifteen years, but am ashamed to admit we didn't keep in touch as friends should. We talked whenever we met, caught up on life, and that was it. I know she's a Christian and has the hope of eternal life. I wonder what she's doing right now. I felt a twinge of envy that she's walking in heaven with no more troubles or pain. She gets to meet Jesus! Man oh man how I look forward to my time, but just not yet.
I went to the store for a few things and realized that was the last place I saw her. She wasn't feeling well, but didn't seem deathly sick. She was her usual self, but I may have been distracted by my own life to really notice any thing wrong.
I got back to my van and burst out in tears at thinking of the memory of her, her smile, angelic voice, and her son. What is going to happen with him?  I found out he insisted on having a memorial service for her this Saturday.bless his heart. I will try to help him as much as possible. Please pray for him and the family taking him in.
It has made me more aware of keeping in touch or at least praying for family and friends.

~Lori

cinco de mayo

As I pondered what to wear today,it occurred to me that it's the 5th of May, cinco de mayo,in Spanish. I considered wearing loud colors or a sombrero to celebrate. Then I realized I don't really know what I would be celebrating.
Is today the anniversary of Mexico's independence, and if so, from what or whom?
I looked it up and found cinco de mayo is actually the day they remember their victory in the battle of Puebla
Here is one link from where I found info http://www.vivacincodemayo.org/history.htm
Their independence day is actually September 16th.
Another site suggested this day is promoted by a certain beer company to bolster their sales.
Either way, many people look for reasons to celebrate and liven things up, and cinco de mayo is a good reason to celebrate, especially for Mexicans!
VIVA! el CINCO DE MAYO!!

God Bless,

"I Refuse" to be indifferent

Happy May!!
Having a blog makes me want to share some deep insights in what's going on around the world, but I really just wanted an outlet to share things closer to home. I have found that even events that happen half way around the world touch us in our homes. The devastating tornadoes in southers USA have shaken up families I know, earthquakes in Japan affected friends and family, wars in other countries also have touched family and friends.
Singer Josh Wilson wrote a song called "I Refuse"(lyrics below)  which addresses the epidemic of indifference. To wait for someone else to rise up and help others instead of moving out of our comfort zone. I am just as guilty, and have decided to help whenever possible. That's the only 'deep insight' I have to offer, Let's help others in need. Even if it means listening to a person you know loves to talk (a lot) because they are so lonely. (yes, I have someone in mind).
God Bless <3

( Cindy, I thought about calling this blog 'Loris Random Thoughts, but didn't want you to sue me for infringement lol : )
 Josh Wilson, I Refuse
Sometimes I
I just want to close my eyes
And act like everyone's alright
When I know they're not

This world needs God
But it's easier to stand and watch
I could say a prayer and just move on
Like nothing's wrong

But I refuse
'Cause I don't want to live like I don't care
I don't want to say another empty prayer
Oh, I refuse

To sit around and wait for someone else
To do what God has called me to do myself
Oh, I could choose
Not to move but I refuse

I can hear the least of these
Crying out so desperately
And I know we are the hands and feet
Of You, oh God

So, if You say move
It's time for me to follow through
And do what I was made to do
Show them who You are

'Cause I don't want to live like I don't care
I don't want to say another empty prayer
Oh, I refuse

To sit around and wait for someone else
To do what God has called me to do myself
Oh, I could choose
Not to move but I refuse

To stand and watch the weary and lost
Cry out for help
I refuse to turn my back
And try and act like all is well

I refuse to stay unchanged
To wait another day, to die to myself
I refuse to make one more excuse

'Cause I don't want to live like I don't care
I don't want to say another empty prayer
Oh, I refuse

To sit around and wait for someone else
To do what God has called me to do myself
Oh, I could choose
Not to move but I refuse

I refuse
I refuse
