What Is he Thinking??

What Guys Want Us To Know About Dating, Love, and Marriage.
By Rebecca St.James

This is a book written by Rebecca after she interviewed several men about their views on these topics.
The result is an honest look at how guys really see women and how they are attracted, or not, to them.
Although the interviews focus on single guys ages 20-35, Rebecca also includes words of wisdom from older mentors she respects who have been successfully married for years, such as her dad, life coach, and pastor.
The men share their thoughts on topics like how women can respect themselves and the men in their lives, modesty, purity, taking it slow, friendship, letting guys lead, and more. This book gives them the floor to say what they would really like women to know.
The men respond candidly to questions like:
  • What is the most attractive quality to you in a woman?
  • Is modesty truly attractive?
  • Is neediness a turn-off?
  • What do you find beautiful?
  • How can we be dependent on God for our identity, not on you?
  • How can we help you with boundaries physically?
Rebecca also discusses her own dating life, speaking openly about the single life, her struggle with loneliness, and her hope for the future. She challenges women to see the men in their lives as brothers in Christ and to trust God with their dating lives.
Although I am married, I found it insightful on how my husband sees me through a man's eyes. It is also a good book to share with my teenage daughter who is dating guys, and could benefit from the insights shared in the book.
It's nice to see that men care about inner beauty and character more than outer looks. Most of the men said communication and compassion are attractive in women, but vanity is the least of what they like in them.

Ginny Owens' CD, Get In,I'm Driving =D

This week, my daughter (18) was happy to share her review
of Ginny Owens' CD, Get in I'm driving.
We both enjoyed the soulful sounds of her worship music, but Jen's sense of music sums it up better than my words could say.
Here is her review:

Ginny Owens' CD Review:
If you're looking for soundtracks with Christian soul, this one has a sufficient amount. The harmonies and instrumentation give me a feeling of sweet welcome to the whole album. Some of the songs talked to me personally because they talk about pressure, truth and grace. Those are very real things in this world today. Ginny gives spiritual relief as she sings that we are special in our own ways and can find grace through Jesus Christ. My personal favorite song is number four because Ginny's voice seems sweeter and softer. I also enjoy the song's tempo and just the general sound. Peace through God is presented through many songs, like song five. Ginny sings about peace and a hope for the future if we are to follow God. Ginny seems to reach out to listeners and touch their hearts, like mine personally. One of the songs I do not particularly like, however, is song six because of it's peculiar opening of keyboard acoustics. The song has a good bass beat, but I could not concentrate on the lyrics because of the tangle of keyboard and beats. All other songs are beautiful and I give four and a half stars for Ginny Owens! * Very nice job, Ginny, and I hope you continue to sing for Jesus Christ/Father God.

Review of new DVD, Theo:God's Love

Theo:God's Love is part of an animated series teaching about biblical ideas to kids and adults alike.
I watched this DVD with my six year old son to gauge his interest.
We both enjoyed the short stories presented,Good News and Saving Grace.
I could tell he was interested in the story with colorful cartoon graphics and sound effects.
The mice friends,Luther and Belfry, were also fun to watch.
The ideas of God's love for everyone is what Good News is about, and having faith in God is what Saving Grace is about. My son understood and asked further questions about it along the way.
*I recommend an adult watch with their child or Sunday School class because they may also ask the same things, such as,"Why did God want Abraham to leave?Where's the children? Where is the baby?!" and" Where is that cliff? We need to go there to find Jesus." His interest was amazing because he doesn't sit still for long periods of time, but when the story was over he said,"Aw,that's it?! Why it's done already?" He watched it again and was still just as interested in it.
I also looked up the web resources for parents and will be sharing them with him as a reinforcement of the lessons.
We each give the DVD Theo:God's Love a thumbs up :)

Labor Day 2011

This year was an exceptionally exciting Labor Day weekend :) I had been anticipating a visit from mt daughter and her husband from South Carolina for several weeks! They could only stay the weekend,so we planned a party for their friends and our family to come here that Saturday.
I had taken many things in due to the possible damage we could have gotten from Hurricane Irene, so I had to reassemble the screenhouse and other yard items. After all the yard and screenhouse items were done, I could focus more on other details such as food prep and a place for them to sleep.
Their flight came in past midnight Friday, and we got back to the house around 2:30 am.,making an already short weekend seem even shorter. It was so nice to hug my kid after not seeing her for about six or so months :) Even though she's 23, she'll always be my kid.
The party was really nice, family came from RI for the day and friends came to join the fun. They mainly talked and hung around. I wanted to play lawn games, but it was pretty warm and humid out so they didn't want to do too much besides be in the shade or air conditioned house. Her uncle went geo- caching in a nearby park with my husband and son. They found it along a nice shady path. A perfect place to be on a warm day.
I made a native RI dish called Dynamites. It came out really good for my first time making it :)
The main ingredients of Dynamites are hamburg, peppers, onion, tomato sauce, more peppers, and seasoning. It gets served on a roll. Very yummy! My kids helped make it, which was one of the best parts of my day <3
I was so tired and tried resting, but knew their visit was too brief to be missed, so I lounged on the garden swing while they talked and ate. I enjoyed hearing their voices and laughter =D  We took a 'few' pictures as usual. I will post a few when I upload them here.
Sunday noon was nice. After church, she made her specialty dish of Chicken Parmesan. She is becoming quite a good cook. The food was really good! and she was proud to make it for us.
Later that night, we put a puzzle together.and played Yahtzee. I like playing games and I'm glad it runs in the family. I wanted to squeeze as much time out of the visit as I could. My six year old son also stayed up pretty late :/ We retired around midnight and I was asleep when my head hit the pillow.
Monday came too quickly. I got my other daughter a cake for a small surprise birthday treat. She'll be 18 in a few weeks and her sister wanted to be part of the celebration <3 She was very surprised because I told her it was for her sister. It was funny how she didn't believe it was for her.lol :p  We shared the cake and my I had mountain dew for the caffeine so I could be ready for the 90 minute ride to the airport.
A big rainstorm from Hurricane Lee was covering the entire east coast, so I was nervous about the drive. It was fine until the ride home. Leaving my daughter at the security gate once again was such a bitter sweet time. I know she's happy in SC and her husband is a great guy. but we really miss each other. I think if they could get a job in New England they would move back, but for now, they have a life there.
The flight back was uneventful, probably smoother than mine as I drove in that wicked rainstorm I was hoping to avoid. Hurricane Katia is on the way now, but will most likely stay to the east of us, causing rain, but not too bad.

All in all, we had a really good Labor Day visit =)
Now, I just have to wait til Christmas to see them again =<
 I love my family <3
Hope you had a good weekend, too.
Love and blessings,
~Lori
